The Astral Shapers had the knowledge to imbue items with magical energy which enhanced them greatly. Old texts suggest that their ability was a gift of the gods, however, it is unclear by which ones. They seemingly abused their powers for selfish purposes, and so they lost the favour of their patron gods. This ultimately left them with no allies at all and the rest of the world turning against them. The favour of the gods must have been essential for the charging process as they were no longer able to create new artefacts then. Without any allies and no possibility to create new magical items, they were utterly crushed by their enemies. When the victors tried in vain to steal their knowledge, they destroyed most of it and many Shaper artefacts. In the following centuries, several attempts have been made to compile and unearth the Shaper knowledge but only fragments have been found. Many texts were created, translated, copied, rewritten or annotated, however, the quality of these works differed immensely. Today all of the collected material is commonly known as the Shaper records.
